time for holiday shopping, anyone?
i had about 5 hours to kill in seattle on a layover last week, and decided to rent a car and head downtown for some adventures. on the way back to the airport, i made a stop at stellar pizza in the georgetown neighborhood and hopped in the booth for a strip (or three).
the booth itself is lovely, and the atmosphere is exactly that which i'd like to continually surround myself with. that is, lots of atomic-age era ephemera, and a general good-time feeling. in addition to producing erm, stellar, pizza and cocktails, the good folks have also provided an assortment of props, including wigs and a stuffed raven.
that's right.
i found this while thrifting a few years ago, and was thrilled, as it combines two of my great loves: found photos and photobooths,
my lovely friend angie gave me this book last year, and i've only just now started to read it. i definitely have the itch to go boothing sometime soon!
this was the day i finally got my friend tara into the booth with me. later, i left for boston on the red-eye. so it was pretty much the perfect day: the beach, my favorite photobooth, and travel.

it's been a long dry spell in terms of photobooth fridays, partly because i haven't been boothing as frequently. 
i went to a friend's wedding in december, and lo and behold, there was a digital photobooth. these are typically inferior, in my mind, to the photochemical dip-and-dunk variety, but hey -- boothing with friends is fun, no matter what the style!
seattle and vancouver were great. definitely not long enough, and there are so many things still left to see in vancouver. we wasted the better part of an hour in the wrong section of town trying to find the way to the hotel. matt was stoked that we ran into some store that carried his beloved kinder bueno bars, so all was not lost.
we ran into a minor snafu at the border heading north, as the guard saw a large box in the backseat and questioned its contents. when he found out there was nothing in it, he seemed even more suspicious. when matt told him we'd be there about 24 hours, i saw the guard raise his eyebrows. there was nothing in the box, of course, but it formerly contained a bunch of gag gifts matt brought me from his trip to spain. it was pretty hysterical thinking that we'd have to show the sex-toy looking objects (and related chocolates) to the guard.
once we found the hotel, we walked around for several hours and shopped and saw some sights. we even found a photobooth, and he humored me by posing for a couple of strips with me. we had big plans to do dinner and go out, but after our unintended FIVE HOUR nap, it was 11:30p and denny's was the only thing open. we shrugged it off and decided to stay in and just hang out.
this was taken this past saturday in vancouver, bc, the first of many photobooth stops on the trip. (international boothing, what what!)
fools in the booth, indeed. underarm in my face is a new booth experience for me, the laugh the snap captured is definitely real. 
though this was taken in december, it serves as a reminder that baseball season is upon us once again. yippee! and yeah, the giants are far from #1 anywhere except for my heart. /cheesiness

the only reason i ever go to the san jose flea market is for their photobooths. all of them are black and white, and they're all $2. a steal!
it was a lovely way to end the year.
this is the first of the "found" photobooth pics that i picked up at a local antique store. my excitement when i came across this in a large bowl full of pics from someone's family history is indescribable. i love the look of indifference on this boy's face, almost as if someone forced him into the booth, and his nautical-inspired shirt. these details and others make it my favorite of the vintage found photobooth pics i have.
i like to think he grew up to be a nice guy, one of those quintessential all-american 50s leave it to beaver letterman jacket wearing guys that drank martinis and said things like, "hi honey, i'm home!" without any hint of irony and had a house full of furniture i'd drool over.
the family and i went to san francisco last weekend and i convinced them all to step into BOTH (!) of the fabulous booths at the musee mecanique at pier 45. truly, these two strips are not only two of my all-time favorites, but that i was able to cram all four of us, plus my sister's boyfriend into one shot, really makes me happy.
