memorialized

I had such an awesome (long!) weekend!

As usual, pix do a better job of explaining. But! My computer is (once again) in for service, so there'll only be a smattering of pix that I had a chance to upload before the ol' battery died. (Thanks (again) to my sister, I'm cruising along using her laptop.)

And that's it. :(

I'll have to wait until the copy of my hard drive comes back to share the rest.

sweet spot

My father called me today, early afternoon, wanting to know if I wanted Giants tickets for this evening. Giants fan that I am, I rarely pass up an opportunity like this one, but I already had plans to see Augusten Burroughs in the City and thus declined. Dad said, "But it's a suite!"

Count me in, Pops. Plus, there's the potential that Barry might do his thang this evening. So Dad says, "Who will you take with you?" with a hint of something in his voice. I hesitated before asking if he wanted to join me.

You would have thought I asked him if he wanted another Rolex, he was so excited. If he wanted to go that badly, why did he even offer the tix to begin with? Perhaps, as Jewels pointed out, he was delighted that I wanted to go with him.

along the way

Words are failing me right now, but as I always say, pix tell the story better than my words ever could. The lowdown: T and I did a road trip from Dallas to Austin, then from Austin to San Antonio and back over four days.

Lots of miles driven, lots of Sonic slushes consumed (although not enough, in my opinion, it's never enough), lots of stops along the way, lots of laughs. Lots of good memories to carry with me for years to come.

One of the highlights of the trip, because I am a 5 year-old trapped in a (nearly) 27 year-old's body, was our stop at Schlitterbahn water park. Best.time.ever. And it was located in the most adorable little town. If it were a person, I'd pinch its cheeks and pat it on the head.

I also wish that we had more time to spend in San Antonio -- the weather, after enduring two of the most breathtaking thunderstorms I've ever seen -- was warm and made me want to stay out enjoying the crowds.

The following are a mere glimpse of the pix I took, it'd take me too long to upload them all. That, and everyone would be bored to tears after looking at so many.

At any rate, click to see the images larger, as always.

you.are.going.to.die.

Sunday Lisa and I saw one of my favorite authors in person, David Sedaris .

There isn't much I can say to describe the reading, especially if one is not familiar with Sedaris' work. Suffice to say, I laughed and laughed at his unreleased stories, and am hoping he'll release something new, pronto. His story (link to the "New Yorker" story that was released the next day) about a human skeleton he bought as a gift for his boyfriend was hysterical -- he talks about how the skeleton taunts him with a constant reminder that death is eminent by chanting, "You Are Going to Die" as it hangs from (get this) their bedroom ceiling. Stange? You betcha. Funny as hell? Oh yeah.

Lis and I were about fourth in line for the signing after the reading, and Sedaris had a bag of taffy on the signing table and was offering it to his fans. I offered up a meager crack about taking candy from strangers, really only funny if you know that his sister, Amy, was on the tv show "Strangers With Candy."

And even then it wasn't all that funny.

Up next: reading/signing with Augusten Burroughs in SF next week.

A personalized copy, just for me! (It has my name right above the title)

They said no pix, thus the semi-stealth crappy shots at the post-reading book signing.
